Product Description After spending a year in prison, Ralph Fisher has explicit plans for his first night of freedom: tonight, someone will be held accountable. He goes to murderous lengths to obtain the address of his former wife - the woman he blames for his fate and against whom he has sworn vengeance. Determined to bring her to his idea of justice, Ralphs next step is to travel from Floridas sandy beaches to Dayton, Ohio, where his ex-wife is struggling to make ends meet on Mad River Road.
Also in Florida, Jamie Kellogg wakes from an agonizing nightmare of her mothers funeral, and assesses her life: a pretty but unaccomplished twenty-nine-year-old woman in a dead-end job, with an ex-husband in Atlanta, a married lover in the hospital, and a virtual stranger in her bed. But this stranger is everything the previous men in her life werent: tender, attentive, and adventurous. After convincing Jamie to quit her miserable job and ditch her judgmental, perfectionist sister, he proposes a romantic getaway. While Jamie wonders if this thrilling man might finally be her Prince Charming, they plan a road trip to visit his son, who lives with his mother on a street called Mad River Road

Not worth it! July 22, 2008 This was a first book of J. Fielding I read. A friend is trying to convince me to give a try to another one of her books. I did not have to get too far in the book to pretty much put together what's going to happen. The main character could not be more stupid, is that how Fielding views women? Fielding used characters that had absolutely nothing to do with, or contribute to the main story. The way I see it she needed to have more pages for the book, so she wrote, frankly, useless conversations to give it bulk. The book is very shallow, not a good fiction and not even "true" to real life, not a thriller. It leaves you empty.
Mad River Road May 4, 2008 A suspenseful novel with a surprise ending, but not as well written as some of Fieldings novels. I still couldn't put it down. A real page turner.
3.5 STARS......GOOD READ............... February 18, 2008 Jamie Kellogg thinks that she may have finally found her Prince Charming. While drowning her sorrows in a local bar over her married boyfriend, she meets the handsome and gregarious Brad Fisher....who convinces her, after a night of passion, to throw caution to the wind and take to the road seeking adventure. So the two do just that...with the intent being to eventually end up seeing Brad's young son, who lives with his ex-wife. It is during the roadtrip, however, that Jamie finds out exactly how naive she has been. That Brad Fisher is nothing like he professed to be...and that she has now become an unwilling accomplice to burglary, murder....and quite possibly a whole host of others. What she does know now is that Brad is headed to Mad River Road, to exact his own revenge. Additionally, Jamie herself has become a victim...is there anything that she can do to redeem herself, and perhaps turn this entire nightmare around? Read on, to see what happens. 3.5 stars only, for me, however; the lead characters do nothing to endear themselves (with the possible exception of Lily), and Jamie's naivete can quite easily be viewed as mere stupidity. The storyline is strong throughout, however...until the end. To me, there was such a tremendous buildup, that the end was sort of a fizzle...rather than the resounding bang that I'd expected. A good read, nevertheless.

Though it expected it, it was the book which it was very disappointed, and was dull. This book will your time and money.
Terrific Story...Abrupt Ending! September 24, 2007 I enjoy Fielding's writing. I have read a few of her other pieces and find her to keep the story moving at a very fast pace as she presents the reader with several twists and turns. This work was no different. After having read her "Whispers and Lies" (which has one of the best endings of modern day fiction) I turned the pages of this novel faster than the Pope passes out holy cards, and I was rather disappointed as I got to the climax because it was so abrupt (however, not bad), it left me with a sense of wanting more and asking myself...Is this it? That's OK Joy, you kept me going and I enjoyed the ride. I will look forward to reading another one of her novels in the near future.
