I am a hugh fan of this author and with this installment in her Tess M. series she did not disappoint. A very good story. Keeps you riveted right to the end.

I had recently read another Lippman book, which I had enjoyed. Plus, this got a good review somewhere and I believed it. Oh, woe is me. What a bore. What one-dimensional characters. What a letdown. Probably my last Lippman purchase. Sorry :(

Laura Lippman appeared on husband David Simon's The Wire during its just completed final season, which must have been when she was writing Another Thing to Fall. With the publication of this book, we now know what she thinks of TV actors and writers -- not much.
You know a mystery is really bad when the reader bails before the murder. I have read several of Laura Lippman's novels, both Tess and No Tess, and consider her one of the finest authors writing today in any genre. I was looking forward to reading this most recent Tess novel. I managed to slog along through page 113, largely out of respect for Ms. Lippman, but I could not take it anymore. This is a bad book. A very bad book. Allright, why mince words -- it's awful. The characters are caricatures rather than people. The writing is not that of a disciplined, experienced author such as Ms. Lippman, but instead is typical of a starstruck Hollywood groupie whose idea of writing a novel about the cast and writers of a TV show is to throw in two or three cliched or obscure allusions to movies or TV shows on every other page. And the plot -- well, actually there is a very good mystery in this novel: WHERE IS THE PLOT?!! As far as I could tell, there isn't any. Just endless, boring, cynical dialogues among endlessly boring and cynical people. Ms. Lippman has let her fans down big time with this pointless, amateurish book. And she's let Tess and Crow down even more; these characters may bear those names but they bear no resemblance to the witty, erotic, energetic and extremely REAL people of past Tess novels. Tess comes across as old and tired; would the real Tess Monaghan simply tell a young starlet who insists on parading around topless in front of her that nudity among strangers bothers her? No way; the real Tess would come out with a witty, slightly off color zinger that would send the girl scurrying for a shirt. As for Crow, he is virtually invisible.
There is only one explanation. Someone has stolen Lippman's identity and released this pale imitation of a Lippman novel. Don't bother with Another Thing to Fall -- wait until Tess gets back up and returns to literary health.

Don't waste your time on this book it made no sense had no suspense.She has written better books and I think this one should have been redone.

Baltimore Private Investigator Tess Monaghan is out minding her own business, rowing down the river, when she's almost run over by a film crew shooting a scene in TV miniseries. One thing leads to another and before she knows it she's hired to bodyguard the young star of the show, party hardy Selene Waites. It seems someone is out to sabotage the series and the producers want their star protected and after a member of the crew is murdered it looks like their fears were well founded.
This was a nice read which keep me glued to the pages all the way through. I've read one other book by Laura Lippman and I enjoyed it very much. It was good to see Tess again and now that I'm hooked, I'll be checking out Laura Lippman's other Tess Monaghan stories. Laura Lippman turns out well written mysteries which keep you guessing right up till the end. I enjoyed this book a bunch and I think you will too.
