well, it's silly and dilly, as promised. September 26, 2008 I bought this for a 5 year old, and I think the book (songs) are much more entertaining for the parent than the kid. The rhymes are only mildly clever, but what I think is lame: the rhymes are more about situations (i.e smelly lockers) that only older children would understand. In other words, the references don't match the experiences of younger children.
Smelly Locker- Great illustrations! Great for teens! August 27, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I received this book and without looking at it before I let my 8 year old son read it. He loves the book and I did not know why until I decided to to find out. Well it was funny but I do not think alot of the content is appropriate for him. Maybe a teenage would be more suitable. I noticed alot of negativity toward school but no bad language. It was funny but not appropriate for his age. I read over a good bit of it and think it was funny and had a good tune. The illustrations were just plain GREAT!!! This was very entertaining in its self. My conclusion is it would be a great book for older kids, teenagers but probably not any younger in my opinion. I am trying to maintain a good attitude towards school for my youngsters.
Memories of riding the school bus August 25, 2008 Maybe it was a weird time (81-85) or a weird school/region, but when I went to school on the school bus, often we sang songs on the bus. It kept us busy, preoccupied and focused on something other than getting into mischief as an alternative to boredom. None of the songs we used to sing were in the book, but they are similar in topic, the sillier the better. It helps to find some midi files or instrumental versions of the tunes used for the songs, for first timers. My six-year-old had fun singing them with me, but they are likely more appropriate for eight or ten-year-old children.

A Funny Book with a couple "Need to Knows" before purchasing August 20, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
A 7 year-old review: It has some pretty gross pictures and it's pretty silly. Overall, I really like it. There are some funny pictures too.
My review: While the book is extremely silly and has many lines that both my son (age 7) and I laughed out loud at (pictures too!), there are a couple of possible negatives that I have found. First, in order to get the rhyme scheme, you must know the tune to several songs (Frere Jacques, Oh! Susanna, Miss Mary Mack, Take me Out to the Ball Game, Home on the Range, The Battle Hymn of the Republic, When Johnny Comes Marching Home, I'm a Little Teapot, London Bridge is Falling Down, The Wheels on the Bus, Itsy Bitsy Spider, The Alphabet Song, Hey Diddle Diddle, and Oh My Darling Clementine). While I know nearly all of these songs it is something to know before purchasing. Tip: You could make an activity out of it if your family does not know the songs and seek out these songs online or on CD before starting the book. Additionally, I was not thrilled with the fact that nearly every poem in the book comes from the perspective that school is a negative activity. My 2nd grader loves school and it seems as though the media has increasingly taken a "school/homework is not cool" stance hoping to connect with the child demographic. Books/TV/etc. can still connect with kids and have silly/stupid humor (which I love) and not bash school to make the jokes work. Just my opinion and something to help make your decision before purchasing.
