Summer Lives On September 5, 2008 This is a wonderful book, bringing the magic of summer to all who read it. What child (or adult) doesn't have memories of chasing fireflies? Very well done...
Catching fireflies July 23, 2008 Hasn't almost everyone, at one time or another, captured fireflies on a warm summer evening? This story tells about such an activity. All you need is a jar with air holes punched in the lid and the patience to carefully collect these lightning bugs and, of course, your parent's permission. It is fun to collect the insects, then to go to a very dark place (like your bedroom) and watch the bugs light up and throw a dull glow all over your bedroom. But, don't forget to let the lightning bugs go free outside before you go to sleep...Tomorrow is another day and you can collect more lightning bugs then. Have fun and enjoy reading about one of my favorite bugs, other than lady bugs.
Great story! July 21, 2008 This is a very good story and the illustrations are exceptional. My daughter is 7 and this is a book that I am sure we will be reading for years to come.
Fireflies October 23, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am a teacher and have been using this book with my 3rd graders for a few years now. They can make many connections with this book and can infer and make predictions when the story is done. It is a great book because they've all got some story to tell about catching fireflies.
A child's view of fireflies. November 6, 2006 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Nothing can match the wonder of a night filled with tiny lights of the firefly. This book takes me back to the child's delight in catching them, trying to make the wonder last. But, I, too, let them go in the end. Pass it on.
