Disappointing July 23, 2008 I'm glad I wasn't the only one who found this book not up to par. I had a hard time getting through it as it seemed to be dragging. I have read all of the other books in 1 or 2 sittings, but this one took me 2 weeks. I too wish the characters would grow some. It was the same old gags and not very funny.

Janet Evanovich does it again! This is another laugh-out-loud Stephanie Plum adventure!! I love these books! I hope she writes many more!!
Vanilla July 22, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
If someone asked me how this book was I'd describe it as vanilla. Not overpowering, not bad either. I read it in a day, so it wasn't hard to read, but it just didn't make me laugh out loud as I have in the past. I have found the last few books to be this way. It's a good lighthearted read...just not the best.
Decent but not fearless July 22, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've loved the Stephanie Plum series since it first hit the stands but have to agree it's not the best work of Evanovich. The characters are getting stale and relying on the same old gags to fill pages. I want Stephanie to grow and learn. I want challenges to be REAL challenge and not just inadequacies on her part. She stumbles onto dead bodies and clues and while this is amusing in small doses, after a while it gets boring.
I'm not giving up - the series is still good enough for paperback or 2nd hand purchases. But I'm not sinking money into hardback editions anymore.
A Huge Disappointment July 22, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have always looked forward to the June release of the newest Stephanie Plum book. It is near my birthday and one of my daughters always buys it as a gift. This year, I wish she had just given me a gift certificate instead! I am sorry that she wasted her money. The last few years I have been less enthralled with each book. Sadly, Ms. Evanovich has lost her ability to write witty, engaging stories and she needs to stop this series before she has books thrown back at her in protest.
I have been a huge fan, but these last two books are a waste of time and money. I'd like to mail it back to her. Heck, maybe I will...
