Product Description
English for Global Business is a business English textbook for non-native speakers who are learning English in order to conduct business, communicate with international professionals, advance in a career, prepare for the TOEIC exam, or pursue an MBA or other university professional degree in English.
This textbook emphasizes the oral communication skills that are most needed for international business. This focus on the language of business and social interactions enables the businessperson to understand international associates clearly and to speak naturally and with confidence. The book also familiarizes learners with American English usage and with aspects of U.S. business protocol and etiquette.
English for Global Business is for intermediate-level students and contains chapters on:
Getting acquainted
Describing your work
Telephoning
Traveling internationally
Entertaining a business associate
Discussing issues
Exercises for listening, vocabulary, language mastery, and communication encourage increased knowledge and fluency. Sections on professional protocols introduce learners to cross-cultural issues and the etiquette appropriate for common business interactions in the United States.

Successful experience using this textbook with three groups of international business English professionals. It seemed to cover the basic business language needed for intermediate learners -- introductions, socializing, networking, traveling on business, etc. The audio CD is necessary for the listening exercises. The exercises and role plays were great for practicing the language. I saw significant improvement in listening and speaking skills.

I hate to be negative, but this book was truly a waste of money. The activities are not useful to actual business executives learning English- entire units on "calling and making a hotel reservation", "talking to people at a trade show", etc. They have even laid out the book where you can't even use it without the classroom CD for the majority of the exercises. I didn't know this when I purchased the book, and the CD, of course, costs more than the book! I have never encountered a good Business ESL text. I think I need to produce one myself!

Not only an excellent text for concepts of "global communication" but also a testament to Thomas L. Friedman's thesis in his "The World is Flat: A Brief History of The Twenty-First Century.

English for Global Business is an excellent text for the international business professional. It has realistic business language, a variety of creative exercises to ensure mastery, and a valuable business protocol section in each module. One of the best business English books on the market!
