Product Description
Do you think that healthy food couldn't possibly taste good? Does the idea of "eating healthy" conjure up images of roughage and steamed vegetables? Author Ellie Krieger, host of Food Network's Healthy Appetite, will change all that. A registered dietitian, Ellie is also a lover and proponent of good, fresh food, simply but deliciously prepared. And she's not about denial--no nonfat foods here, because when you take the fat out of natural foods, in go the chemicals. Don't deny yourself butter--use a pat of it, but put it front and center on those mashed potatoes, so you can revel in it with all your senses. The Food You Crave is all you'll need to change the way you eat and change the way you feel. It contains 200 recipes that cover every meal of the day and every craving you might have. Every recipe contains a complete nutritional breakdown, as well as tips on ingredients and techniques that will keep you eating smart and eating well.

5 out of 5 stars Delicious Recipes   October 15, 2008
I've made at least 12 recipes from this book already and all have been delicious. My kids LOVE the salmon cakes. The sausage and penne was also a hit. I would highly recommend this book to a family who is trying to find delicious recipes to eat healthier.

5 out of 5 stars Healthy eating   October 13, 2008
This book has some wonderful recipes. I have been a dieter all my life and now have gotten into "healthy eating". It works much better. Thank you Amazon for the great service.

5 out of 5 stars Truly Luscious Recipes...   October 11, 2008
Ellie's recipes are great not only for everyday, but also healthy entertaining. Everything is tasty and looks good on the plate, which are two combinations that I love. Being a pasta freak, I especially enjoyed her turkey meatballs & spaghetti recipe. She incorporates fresh, healthy veggies into many of her entrees, and end results are pretty, tasty and satisfying. I am truly enjoying this book.

5 out of 5 stars Luscious Recipes is correct!   October 9, 2008
I've had this cookbook for several weeks and so far every recipe has been a winner. The mixture of flavors is amazing. I wish all the recipes had pictures, but that's a minor issue. This is a well written, enjoyable cookbook that should be on every cookbook lovers shelf.

5 out of 5 stars Great pics, easy-to-follow and hands-down delicious   October 6, 2008
I had never heard of Ellie when I stumbled across her book looking for a low-fat spicy salad dressing recipe. After looking into her a bit more, I thought her philosophy sounded like mine - eat real food, prepare it with flair, and all things are ok in balance and moderation. No recipe calls for stuff like "acceptable fat" or "sugar substitute" or any of the things you so often see. She uses real foods, and uses them really well.
I have made several recipes out of here already: chicken pot pie, sloppy joes, garlic fries, and apple turnovers. Every recipe has been amazingly delicious! I mean like put-your-fork-down-in-amazment good.
I will tell you, this is not for the novice cook. The recipes are not hard, but they are also not "open a can of this, mix in water, and voila!" type of recipes. They require a lot of cutting, mixing, and bits of this and that.
But if you like to cook, and you like to eat healthy but aren't willing to sacrifice flavor (and like me, you want to avoid putting substitute food in for real food) this book is IT. I can't recommend it highly enough.
