Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Warren Brown wants you to bake your cake and eat it too. And he wants you to conquer your fear of flour and learn to love every step of cake baking—including, of course, the step in which you present your made-from-scratch masterpiece to bedazzled, hungry-eyed family and friends. (Not to mention the moment when you yourself get to sample a slice of that lovingly crafted creation.)

For Brown, love and baking are inseparable. After all, he abandoned an unrewarding career in law to do the work—baking cakes!—that he finds truly emotionally satisfying. Every page of CakeLove communicates that satisfaction, as well as Brown’s can-do approach to the art of baking. As he asserts, baking cakes isn’t a cakewalk, but it’s not rocket science, either—and getting it right isn’t nearly as hard as you think.

Pound cakes, butter cakes, sponge cakes, cupcakes. Glazes, frostings, fillings, meringues. Brown provides all the basics on ingredients, equipment, and techniques, as well as recipes for more than 50 cakes that range from the classic (Chocolate Butter Cake) to the adventurous (“Sassy,” a pound cake made with mango puree and cayenne pepper). The informative step-by-step shots make you want to run to the kitchen and start baking, and the scrumptious color photos of completed cakes look good enough to sink your teeth into.

5 out of 5 stars Love these cakes   July 20, 2008

I've made three recipes so far from this book and plan to make them all. They are unique, wonderful, and my family devours them. Next best thing to living close to one of Warren Brown's bakeries!

5 out of 5 stars In love with cake baking   July 18, 2008

If I could rewrite my life I'd have been a baker. I loved this cookbook and he makes it so easy and fun that a novice or a life-long baker would enjoy using it. Great gift idea for the cake baker in your life. Maybe if you are a good boy or girl they'll bake one for you?!

2 out of 5 stars Too complicated   July 10, 2008

I made the buttercream frosting. It was really good. The baking style in the book is too structured. Good frosting though.

I collect cookbooks and have quite a few on baking. I have to say that this is one of my top books on baking. The pictures are wonderful and the step by step instructions can't be beat.

2 out of 5 stars Not impressed...   June 27, 2008

I've tried his cupcakes and cakes at cake love and I just wasn't impressed.
I've had better cupcakes at my local grocery store (and cheaper too), so I just didn't understand why he would come out with a cook book.

I find his cakes to be dry and crumbly, frostings to be mediocre.
For $3 a cupcake, I'd expect it to be made out of imported chocolate from Belgium or something. I checked out his book but I didn't buy it...
