two for the price of one September 5, 2008 Like the songbook for the first album, this one comes with lots of cool pictures and info about the songs written by Amanda. Again the songs really sound like the cd (for those of us who can't play by ear). The fan art is awesome! The written info given about each song's roots is quite interesting, and well, the biggest thing is that it really does sound like the cd (I know i said this already)!
Amazing book, shame about the imprint. August 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is, as the last of the Dresden Dolls companions was, a fantastic book and a must-have addition to any fan's collection (even if you don't play!). I was so happy to see Brian's drumming notes as well as Amanda's performance notes and the quality of the artwork is just fabulous. The first third of the book is glossy photos, reflections on the songs, art by a myriad of artists and all round made of win. The rest of the book is the complete piano music for the two albums, each song prefaced by the original handwritten lyrics, with some notes written throughout. The first of these books is my all-time favourite sheet music book, but this one may soon usurp its title. The songs are really extremely close to the recorded versions (there is no "dumbing down" or inserting a false melody line across a backing) and very enjoyable to play. My one gripe - and the reason I didn't give it six stars out of five - is that the imprint I received has some pretty major printing errors. In the songs "Sing" and "Me and the Minibar" there are missing pages of sheet music; several pages are repeated instead of the next page in the music. It isn't really that hard to work out, but it is very disappointing that such an otherwise high-quality product, which was clearly a labour of love for those involved, has been marred by a printing error. I would check before you buy this book that the imprint you get is error free, but I would definitely, definitely buy the book!
