Good Pocket Guide July 18, 2008 This book is written for Americans who eat out, especially at the fast food chain restaurants. The calories/fats/carbohydrates counter is very practical for people on the go who have to keep themselves in check. The most practical of all is its pocket size which enables taking it with you whenever and wherever you go out to eat. It would be even more practical if the unit of measurement were also given in metric system. At this time they are only given in imperial system that limiting the use of books to USA, UK and maybe a few other countries.
I suppose that this book can be of a grate use for diabetics. On the negative site it is a pity that the book limits itself to dishes served in restaurants and, especially, the fast food places. In that sense it reminds me of Eat This Not That!: Thousands of Simple Food Swaps That Can Save You 10, 20, 30 Pounds-or More!.
For me this book is only a calories/fat/carbs counter, although the author attempts to make of it a health guide and tries to tackle other topics such obesity, osteoporosis, diabetes etc. For those interested in reading more about healthy nutrition, and for those who prefer to shop for ingredients and cook their own meals I strongly recommend the chapters about obesity, proper food combination, body cleansing, and other aspects of healthy life style in this other great book.
This really helps July 17, 2008 If you keep track, it works great. Has tons of stuff. Everything and more than I expected
Calorie Fat and Carbohydrates July 1, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is very difficult to use. There are so many sections that it's hard to find any particular food item unless you're looking for a brand name - something like a fast food. Otherwise, the sections don't seem to be in any particular order, alphabetical or otherwise. I want a food reference book where I can look up items and get a calorie/carb value based on measurement (i.e. cup, tsp. oz.) Brand names are convenient if you eat out all the time, but regular no-name at-home food items need to be easily referenced as well!
The Best Little Nutrition Information Book Ever!!! June 24, 2008 This little book is chocked full of so much vauluable information and every year they add more resturants and foods. You can take it every where. Easy to just keep in your purse. It's just a must have especially if you have medical conditions such as Diabetes and you need to know what your consuming...Thank You Calorie King!!!
Excellent quick reference guide June 19, 2008 I purchased this item in an effort to curb the amount of fast food I consume during my lunch breaks. It's great because it's small enough to fit in my purse, so I just throw it in there and if I have a moment of weakness and find myself sitting in a drive through, at the very least I can see what NOT to order. It is pretty eye opening to see just how much fast food is bad for you and as a result I've really cut back on my intake. If I have it now, it's maybe once a week compared to several times a week before. It has just about every fast food and chain restaurant you can imagine. Of course, not every item is listed, but you can get a general idea of what a small fry order is going to cost you. The majority of the book focuses on food you can purchase at the grocery store. I found it very well organized and informative as well, but I don't use that section as often. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase and showed it to everyone in my office who were impressed as well.
