Why Dish On Low-Carb Diets With Your New Book, Dr. Manny? June 30, 2008 With the sudden influx of the Latin culture in the United States over the past couple of decades, this has produced a heavy influence on the kinds of foods that have entered into the category of healthy. Things like avocados, cinnamon, and garlic are now widely considered superfoods because of their positive benefits to our health and these came into prevalence because of Latinos. Noted Fox News health correspondent and OB/GYN Dr. Manny Alvarez introduces many of these foods to the American people with this book and uses it as a springboard for sharing his beliefs about various other diets, including Atkins, South Beach, and The Zone, among other low-carb ones. It shouldn't be too surprising to learn he's not very fond of the low-carb lifestyle on the grounds that the jury is still out about the long-term impact of this way of eating along with the supposed health side effects, high consumption of saturated fats, and the restrictive nature of the diet. Ho-hum--we've heard all this before, Dr. Alvarez. And yet those of us who are livin' la vida low-carb are still here going strong. Even still, mixing in these seven Latin powerfoods into your diet (ironically, most of which are VERY low in carbs, by the way) could be the change you need to get your diet moving in the right direction.

The Hot Latin Diet: The Fast Track Plan to a Bombshell Body
I was expecting more recipes from the Caribbean part of South America, so I was a little disappointed it didn't. Yet the book has good, healthy recipies, so I'd recommend especially to those who love poultry.
Hot Latin Another Diet Trap June 2, 2008 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is exciting to know that these foods will increase one's metablolic core temp. Other than that , it is just another diet trap book. Paige Turner

Anyone who doesn't want to diet but just eat healthy and lose weight, this is the book! I love Dr. Manny from watching Fox News and I wish we had more doctors like him in my city! Reading this book gave me the feel of compassion with food just as he does when he speaks! Thanks Dr. Manny!
Great info: but not enough May 29, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was hoping that this was going to be a Latin diet form of South Beach or Atkins..meaning that Dr Manny provides you with more instructions on what actually to eat on this diet. Info on the 7 power foods was great, but kind of left you in the dust as to what/how much to eat. Recipes are fantastic, but no info on quantities, or sizes of what to eat. He states 3 phases, but it isnt clear on how the phases are really different. As I already eat these 7 power foods, I was left dissapointed as to what I should be doing differently with the 7 foods and all the other healthy food that I already eat..
