Product Description
This up-to-date guide addresses all the subjects you would expect to find in an authoritative book on pregnancy plus issues of special concern to the 60 to 80 percent of women who hold jobs during their pregnancies: Is my workplace safe for my developing baby? When should I tell my employer that I am expecting? How can I handle the discomforts of pregnancy when I need to work? What laws will protect me when I take medical leave? The answers to these questions—and myriad others—can be found in the pages of this practical and reassuring book. Dr. Marjorie Greenfield draws from her experiences as an obstetrician and working mom, and from more than a hundred interviews with mothers ranging from factory workers to high-powered attorneys, to create a unique resource for working women. Dr. Greenfield includes checklists for multitasking working moms-to-be, helpful illustrations, stories and advice from experienced mothers, and information on everything from planning a pregnancy to balancing life after the baby is born. great resource! June 21, 2008 This book fills a valuable niche in the spectrum of pregnancy books. It provides everything the working woman needs to get through the whole process, from planning the pregnancy to delivery to working out post partum logistics. It assumes that the reader is a thinking, rationale person and provides sound medical advice but also has a warm and pleasant voice. Great read and very necessary!
Yes! Finally! June 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
You known how sometimes when you read a novel you just skip down the page reading the conversation in quotes? I did the same thing with this one because the quotes from other working moms were so entertaining. They really flesh out the main points and also show the variety of normal experience. I also loved, loved, loved the first chapter--the quiz about "Are You (Even) Ready to Have a Baby". Lots of working women aren't sure.
Complete and Realistic guide to pregnancy June 18, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Dr. Greenfield's book is a complete informative book that provides pertinent information and comfort to those women considering or experiencing pregnancy. Her facts are accurate and reflect the latest "state-of-the-art" medical and technical knowledge. She addresses issues about the human emotional element that are sometimes forgotten in books of this nature. I highly recommend this book to all women of child-bearing age.
Midwife says, "This book is terrific." June 18, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is terrific! The Working Woman's Pregnancy Book is a must buy for all new mothers, even those who don't work. As a mom and a nurse-midwife, I recommend it to everyone. I'm buying two copies for my daughter-in-laws.
The author covers everything from early pregnancy to labor and delivery to the postpartum period. What I like most are the practical tips for how to arrange your life, not after you go back to work, but before. The author, a woman OB/Gyn, and working mom, even discusses sex!
The index is helpful. The text is clear and easy to read. I loved the comments by real patients. Everything is explained intelligently but with common sense, and not in a scary way. I list this book, with four others, in my OB packet. It's a little expensive, but worth it. I love it. Patricia Harman CNM
Fantastic source of information June 16, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is very well done. It reads like a conversation that every pregnant woman would hope to have with her OB/GYN...while the title may lead you to belive it's only about being pregnant in the workplace, it is actually much more broad than that and covers all aspects of pregnancy from pre-conception to after delivery. An excellent resource.
