great for early readers! July 14, 2007 my 4 yr old loves this story, the illustrations are so cute, and the story moves along very well. it's great before bedtime since it's a happy ending and nothing scary or too adventurous to get their little minds wandering as they're supposed to be falling to sleep. my 7 yr old likes reading it to her little brother.
Sammy The Seal By Syd Hoff July 3, 2007 This book brings back childhood memories. I loved the book now and I still do. My kids enjoy the colorful illustrations and the fun story line. It's an adorable book. Another great book by Syd Hoff.
Sammy The Seal January 11, 2007 I bought this book as a momento for my daughter-in-law, and also so she can share it with my newest grandson. Amazon's service was excellent as always, and the book arrived promptly and in much better shape than I could have imagined for one of it's age.
Sammy the Seal June 18, 2004 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
One day, Sammy the seal decides that he wants to go outside of the zoo to see what life is like in the outside world. During his adventures he walks along a busy street, swims in a man's bathtub, and goes to school. I think it is really cute how people don't even notice there is a seal walking down the street, or if they do they don't act like it is any thing out of the ordinary. The pictures in the original 1959 version are very cute, full of expression and well colored. In the original the colors are shaded in, and almost look as if they were colored in by some very artistic kid with crayons. The story flows wonderfully, even if some parts don't quite make sense. It is a very cute, if rather nonsensical, story. Loggie-log-log-log
Classic story for children May 20, 2004 2 out of 10 found this review helpful
Basically the same story as "Danny and the Dinosaur" and not as ingenious. However, Hoff's illustrations are always a joy to look at. And the scoolteacher is definitely hot. I had a crush on her as a child, and still do.
