 Less Interesting than it's counterpart. June 15, 2008
This book is the exact same thing as Paintball and Airsoft Battle Tactics with less images and longer, more complicated explanations than Paintball and Airsoft Battle Tactics. If you're looking for maps and words and long explanations of tactics than buy this book. Otherwise go for it's counterpart!

This book does a very good job at outlining various dismounted infantry skills. It does it in a way that escapes the pitfalls of military FMs... i.e. to much stuff that doesn't apply to the civilian, poor print quality etc. It is in an easy to read format that makes the information accessible and understandable. Illustrations are timely and helpful. It addresses individual skills, leadership skills and group skills. Individual skills cover things like camouflage and hand signals, leadership skills cover things like patrol planning and op orders, group skills are various tactics. Some of the complaints of other reviewers need to sit back and think. Yes it doesn't go as in depth as it could in all areas, I have yet to find the book that does. And I would like to see a small, pocket sized field version, but that is a trade off for readability. If you're looking for your first book on patrolling/ light infantry skills, this should be it.
Concise, yet complete review of military tactics March 21, 2008
This is a good book, and very well written. I have met the author, and found him to be a knowledgeable soldier, which shows in his writing of this material. It does not go into strategic or large-unit tactics, so uses the extra room to use extra formatting and larger print to make things easier for readers (I hate getting a headache from very small doctrine printing).
This book is for small times, like its title suggests, and it covers it VERY well.

Chris Larson as assembled and excellent work much of which follows the common statement "obvious but needs to be taught... simple but needs to be learned." For those in service and those who are "freelances" will learn much from his non complicated and straight forward approach. This is not strictly a tactical book (depending on your definition of tactics) it is however excellent fundamentals from which even the most experienced will rarely depart. To apply the material is a matter of discipline, training and review, owning the book won't help you much if you don't implement what is in it. But it is simple enough that handfull of novices could implement the contents as the step by step teaching is clear. Recommend it for those who want hands on stuff and a good read for the armchair warriors. To the authors credit he has resisted running an ad campaign for Americas equipment sellers or "what the best gun for me" and cut straight to the chase. Small groups of Militia, Survival and Independent communities who are looking for some strait forward understanding of how to organize method and movement in their security elements will benefit from this work. The book is definitely orientated to small 4 - 6 man teams with a unstated focus on the freelanced team In short it tells you what to do (freelance) without have been told what to do (command).
Good Information, But VERY Poorly Written June 26, 2007

This book does fill a much-needed gap in that it combines several practical tactics and procedures into a centralized, engaging format. Unfortunately, this book is chock full of terrifying typos and spelling and grammatical errors; often several per page! Quite often, words in a sentence are transposed, or the sentence is written so clumsily that it wouldn't make any sense at all if it weren't for the accompanying photographs. In fact, some of the errors are so awful that you begin wondering if the material you are reading mightn't be incorrect.
The utter lack of proofreading aside, this book could be vastly improved and made far more practical if it's size were not so unwieldy. At a full 8 1/2 x 11 inches, you have to wonder what the author was thinking when he recommended on the book's back cover that you place the book in a Ziplok bag for use in the field.
