Editorial Reviews:

Description
THE DOG WHISPERER: BEGINNING AND INTERMEDIATE DOG TRAINING presents the newest advances in positive training methods that are easy-to-use, fast, effective, and motivating. The DVD features professional step-by-step methods by one of the leading proponents of nonviolent training in the world, Paul Owens. Owens is also the author of the best-selling book, The Dog Whisperer.

Learn three simple steps to each of eight different behaviors.
Solve unwanted jumping, stealing, barking, pulling on the leash, digging, and chewing.
Get reliable behavior without jerking, hitting, shocking, or shaking.
Learn clicker training for faster results.
Learn how to quickly wean your dog off food treats.
Include fun tricks and games to play with your dog.

Along with step-by-step instruction, THE DOG WHISPERER DVD includes segments that give an amusing, yet instructional look at training from the dog's point of view, featuring celebrity cameo voiceovers by Jeffrey Tambor, Cheri Oteri and Kevin McDonald. This combination of entertainment and professional training makes it an ideal program for individuals or families looking to train their dog to be reliable without physical negatives or punishment.

Special Bonuses Included on DVD:
Man's First Friend is a 3-minute, state-of-the-art animated short about cave-people and their first encounter with the family dog. Princess Sabrina is a dog puppet with heart, pizzazz and humor who is featured on her own talk show on this DVD. In another segment, she actually trains a real-life dog, making training easy to understand and fun to do.

3 out of 5 stars Easy dog training   May 2, 2008
This video was simple to understand but really for beginning training and not intermediate. While the training worked on my puppy to obey simple commands such as sit and lay down, he is beyond that and into intermediate training such as walking and not jumping. This book did not cover that type of training, it is basic simple sit, lay, come commands.

5 out of 5 stars This DVD saved my neighbors dogs life!   April 4, 2008

Three weeks after I brought my puppy home from the East Valley Animal Shelter, my neighbor decided to get a "pound puppy" as well. I saw him the following week as he was literally on his way to bringing the dog back to the Shelter "because the 'no good crazy mutt' was biting everybody". He said he wasn't as lucky as me and he got a bad dog. I let him borrow this dvd and pleaded with him to give the dog a second chance. He hesitantly agreed. A couple of days later I checked in with him and the dog was no longer biting anybody and his temperament was that of a different and more calm dog. Thank you Paul Owens for helping to save a dog that would have surely been euthanized! Since then my neighbor bought his own dvd as well as the book. Guess I need to get the book now to keep up with him. LOL!

1 out of 5 stars Useless   January 31, 2008

The way this video is set up with menus upon menus makes it virtually useless. Whatever information it contains is difficult to access because of the menus. What information I watched was mediocre and elementary at best, and the frustrating menus for less than five minutes of DVD play time per selection was finally to much. It was a waste of money. I finally tossed this DVD and went out to play with my dog.

If you want a video game, get a video game.

If you want an easy to use and view dog training DVD, avoid this one.

2 out of 5 stars Don't do it.   January 29, 2008
This DVD is very basic and only covers the basic commands. Could be useful if you have a puppy but a basic puppy class will teach you the same stuff. I like his style for sure, but I can't really recommend this DVD as the content is extremely limited. It's really not worth the money.

3 out of 5 stars doesn't stick to the topic   October 28, 2007
While the compassionate insights into dog psychology and non-violent training are useful, there's too much extra stuff in this book. I'm not going to take up yoga, do breathing exercises or cook better for my dog than for my kids. I'd love to see a more concise, focused version of this book.
