Product Description
Crochet is not just about ponchos and scarves anymore: it’s about amigurumi, a hip new craft trend! These Japanese-inspired dolls have motivated crocheters everywhere to grab their hooks and create collections of irresistibly funky-cute creatures. Elisabeth Doherty, one of today’s hottest amigurumi designers, is here to show readers how they, too, can get in on the fun. She explains basic and advanced stitches; shows how to make the critters’ forms by crocheting in the round; gives advice on yarns and stuffing; and offers tips on embroidering facial features and embellishments. Start with an easy cupcake, move on to a palm-sized mouse, and work up to the more challenging and spectacular projects, like a punk rock bunny or a beatnik kitty—complete with black turtleneck, beret, and goatee.

Crochet Amigurumi - Excellent book April 29, 2008 Excellent book for anyone wanting to make crochet Amigurumi. The first part of the book is dedicated to giving very clearly written & illustrated "how to" for crochting in general, along with excellent explainations about yarn types and supplies.
In my opinion, this is a must-have book~
The Best Book Yet April 18, 2008 I bought three books on amigurumi. This is the third one and I'm more pleased with this one than the others. First, the author is very conversational which makes the reading enjoyable. The patterns move from easy to difficult and the reader is highly encouraged to progress from the front to the back in order to add skills as they go. There are some silly items like crocheted hamburgers and fruits and vegetables, but the rest of the designs are absolutely adorable. Rather than sticking with small animals with huge heads, like the Kyuuto book (which is a great book, nonetheless), and rather than all of her designs having the same basic look, like Amigurumi World (which I love, by the way), the author has put together a varied collection of patterns that not only challenge, but appeal to all types of different people. The humanoids are, in a word, awesome, and they open the door for all would-be designers to go beyond "cuteness" and into other realms of 3-dimensional crochet.
I'm a long time knitter, but a very beginning crocheter, and contrary to some of the other reviews, I thought the directions were extremely clear. I learned quite a lot about crochet just from the text. The only thing I would add would be charts rather than strictly text directions, but that's a personal preference.
Have I said that the patterns are amazing? I went to Flickr and Etsy and looked at some of the pictures of what people have made by adapting the designs in this book and it's truly astounding what a single pattern can spark. I also looked at the author's own pictures on the internet and she is more brilliant than her pattern book. It looks as if her well of creativity is far from dry, so I'll be looking for another book from this author. I'll buy it!
Cute, easy to read patterns April 18, 2008 Whether you are a beginner or an advanced crocheter, this is a great book. Cute patterns and they are easy to read and understand.
Not as easy as one might think... April 13, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
As adorable as these patterns are, they aren't all that simple to make. I love all the fruit and veggies but once you get to the animals, you have a challenge on your hands. While I love the book, I think she should have added a few more simple beginning projects.
I love the humanoids. February 18, 2008 I started amigurumi and found information about this book. I do not regret buying it. The instructions in the beginning are very useful, especially for beginners. I love the humanoids. They are very cool. I just finished the bunny and my son loves it. Elizabeth's style is very unique and sophisticated as compared to most other amigurumi pattern authors. I don't care much for the food items and smaller animals in the book, but apparently others do. I wish there were more humanoid patterns, but I think after making these 4, I will get some ideas and have the skill to design my own. See my bunny in the customer images.
