| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description In our age of technology and mass production, the exquisitely handcrafted, one-of-a-kind object continues to delight the imagination and inspire reverence. Objects for Use is the first panoramic survey of contemporary craft in over a decade, and the only one now in print. The more than 300 objects by 200 artists run the full gamut of function. They include glass, ceramics, interior furnishings and accessories, kitchen utensils and knives, quilts, musical instruments, games and toys, fishing gear, and more. Accompanying a major exhibition at the American Craft Museum in New York City, this matchless volume pays tribute to a culturally diverse group of craftspeople--and a uniquely American spirit of creativity.

PAUL SMITH REALLY "GETS IT" September 25, 2001 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
Paul Smith really "gets it" and you should run out and buy this book immediately.......wait a minute, you don't have to do that anymore, it's "1-click" away. Stop reading. Buy it now."Objects for Use, Handmade by Design" provides a quick, gorgeous overview of what is best about the field of American Craft. From things for the top of the table to the table itself. From a music stand to a Steinway piano encased by Wendell Castle. From a gorgeous kyack to a surfboard. Well crafted, beautifully designed objects for use. Paul Smith was the man who put the American Craft Museum on the map...the man who made it relevant....and he's done it again.
