| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Congratulations, you're expecting a baby! What you may not be expecting is all of the requisite gear you "need" to look after your dear bundle. Fear not. Denise and Alan Fields, authors of Bridal Bargains, are here to tell you what's super and what's silly, and how to find it at the best price. You'll learn all about how (and where) to shop for a crib and dresser (including how to get European styling at reasonable prices), what you need in bedding and what can be skipped (a hint: no baby requires the $200 quilt!), which clothing brands are safest and least expensive, and how to shop for monitors, toys, car seats, strollers, books, videos, and more. The authors have field-tested every major brand (and several of the minor ones), and they provide star ratings and annotations at the end of every chapter. A helpful feature in each chapter called "Wastes of Money" will steer you away from $35 Baby Air Jordans and frilly diaper stackers that match your bedding. If that's not enough, they offer a money-back guarantee: If the book doesn't save you at least $250 in baby expenses, they'll refund the price of the book. Well researched and written in a witty and comfortable tone, Baby Bargains should be required reading for every safety- and money-conscious parent-to-be. --Rebecca A. Staffel

Great reviews and bargains July 17, 2008 Highly recommend this book for expecting parents. Best part is the book also reviews items for safety and use, not just price. The name is a bit misleading because the book will recommend more expensive items if it believes it is of better quality and a better value. Already saved hundreds when buying a crib and stroller and we will continue to use the book as a reference when we register for the baby shower. Book easily pays for itself!!
The Bible July 17, 2008 I call this book my baby Bible. I was SO overwhelmed when I got pregnant. I had no idea where to even start. This book was my map. It gave me ideas on what I needed and was an excellent source for reviews on all of the brands available. I used on-line reviews of products and Consumer Reports on-line as well, and between it all I am confident that I have gotten the best items for the best prices. I have impressed my friends who already have 1 or 2 kids with the thoroughness of my registry. It was all because of this book and some common sense. I bought this for my co-worker who is now pregnant, and she turned around and bought a copy for one of her friends. It has been invaluable to us.
Great for creating your baby registry July 16, 2008 Very helpful book, especially if you don't even know what a baby needs at all. I was clueless and used this to figure out what to register for. Also bought several items specially because of this book (crib, bouncy chair, etc). The only thing I disagree with is their stroller ratings, they are very biased against Graco which in my opinion is based on dated experiences. Definitely worth the $$ and a great gift for a friend who has just told you they are expecting!!!
Helpful, but could use some improvements July 16, 2008 As a first-time parent, I found this book helpful in suggesting what I do and don't need and when. I do wish they had used the supposed wealth of parent feedback on their website to list: which strollers and car seats are purchased and liked the most, and which are the best baby slings (and where to buy them cheaper). They recommend skipping the travel system and using a Graco infant seat with just a stroller frame...but this doesn't save you money, as the lower end Graco travel system costs about the same as those two items! Also, the MacLaren frame ($70) is the only one that didn't have problems with tipping over or broken wheels according to my reasearch. Still, I appreciate what they are doing and did glean some useful information.
useful July 14, 2008 Very informative. I basically followed it to buy all baby stuff. The content is a little bit overwhelming due to a less perfect organization, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars.
