Product Description

Twelve-thousand feet beneath the Atlantic Ocean . . .
scientists are excavating the most extraordinary undersea discovery ever made. But is it the greatest archaeological find in history—or the most terrifying?

Former naval doctor Peter Crane is urgently summoned to a remote oil platform in the North Atlantic to help diagnose a bizarre medical condition spreading through the rig. But when he arrives, Crane learns that the real trouble lies far below—on “Deep Storm,” a stunningly advanced science research facility built two miles beneath the surface on the ocean floor. The topsecret structure has been designed for one purpose: to excavate a recently discovered undersea site that may hold the answers to a mystery steeped in centuries of myth and speculation.

Sworn to secrecy, Dr. Crane descends to Deep Storm. A year earlier, he is told, routine drilling uncovered the remains of mankind’s most sophisticated ancient civilization: the legendary Atlantis. But now that the site is being excavated, a series of disturbing illnesses has begun to affect the operation. Scientists and technicians are experiencing a bizarre array of symptoms—from simple fatigue to violent psychotic episodes. As Crane is indoctrinated into the strange world of Deep Storm and commences his investigation, he begins to suspect that the covert facility conceals something more complicated than a medical mystery. The discovery of Atlantis might, in fact, be a cover for something far more sinister . . . and deadly.

Like Lincoln Child’s spectacular bestsellers coauthored with Douglas Preston (The Book of the Dead, Relic), Deep Storm melds scientific detail and gripping adventure in a superbly imagined, chillingly real journey into unknown territory. Child is a master of suspense, and Deep Storm is his most ambitious novel to date.

2 out of 5 stars Too much techno-babble   July 20, 2008
This book took itself far too seriously. I found myself speed reading through all the medical and techno-babble. It's like the author was actually trying to prove his science fiction was feasible. And more character development was needed (who was that bad guy with the hose pipe). Ultimately unsatisfying.

4 out of 5 stars Highly entertaining!   July 1, 2008
This is exactly what I look for in a book to read by the pool--lots of tension, teasers and twists. The first couple chapters were a little dry, but it quickly picked up speed. I especially enjoyed the ending. This reminded me of Crichton in his glory days--and I know of no higher compliment to a fun, scary sci-fi book.

4 out of 5 stars Deep Storm Review   June 19, 2008
I thought this was an interesting book. Everytime I thought I figured out what kind of book it was-it sort of changed. For example, I went in expecting something along the lines of "Ice Hunt" by James Rollins or even one of the Jack DuBrul Phillip Mercer books-but that never came.

I thought the premise was interesting and was excited to keep reading and discover what happened next. Overal not a bad book...but honestly...it's nowhere near as good as the Pendergast books.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT READ!!!   June 13, 2008
IF YOU LIKE A PAGE TURNER THIS IS IT. YOU REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN TILL THE VERY END. A MUST READ

5 out of 5 stars Enjoyable   June 9, 2008
Before starting this review, I ask myself, what is the genera: murder mystery, thriller, terrorism, spy, science fiction, or technothriller? After finishing the book, I contemplated this question and finally decided it was a little of each.

Technology, computer programs, at least one egomaniac, environmental terrorists, sabotage, advanced aliens, and more.

What is down there? The story keeps you guessing, uses historical and current events and places (WIPP for example), and has lots of unexpected twists. Child's gives you hints, then talks you out of your conclusion, leaving you guessing to the end.

One of the best novels I have read in the last couple of years.

Lee Boyland author of two alternative reality books dealing with current events: The Rings of Allah and Behold, an Ashen Horse.
