Product Description

The Dirty Girls are back, saucier and sexier than ever….but would it be wrong to ask them to be a little smarter, too?? Especially when it comes to men. And sex.

Lauren Fernandez is at the top of her game as the cleverest columnist the Boston Gazette has on board—but she can't quite figure out how to pick a guy or how to eat (and not drink) like a healthy person. Usnavys is still sashaying all over town, 260 pounds of her dolled up in designer duds and ready for action—from anyone except her husband Juan, that is. He’s become just a bit boring staying home scrubbing the tub and cooking up chicken fingers for pre-schooler Carolina while somebody else brings home the bacon.

Maybe the other Dirty Girls could help Lauren and ‘navy out, but they've got their own messes to deal with: Rebecca Baca hasn't gained a pound since college (well, who would, if they had an ounce of self-control?) but suspects her picture-perfect marriage may not yield the baby she longs for; Sara may be the star of her own decorating show on cable television, but her dangerous pull toward her ex-husband Roberto isn't so pretty; Amber keeps renaming herself and doesn't want to hear that her soulfulness and reinvention aren't enough to make fans actually buy her music; and Elizabeth is discovering that a relationship with another woman takes more than bravery and a nesting instinct.

Dirty Girls on Top is about trying to figure it all out without quite as much time left as there was five years ago. And it’s about sex and love—getting it, not getting it, yearning for it, having it with the wrong person, fighting it from the right person, trying it a new way, giving up on it. And, in the end, if your fingers are crossed and the planets are in alignment, having it come out just the way it should.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but ending could have been better   September 24, 2008

I thought the the book was really good. I just gave it a three star rating because she elaborated way too much in this one, in some sections and the ending was not as good as I expected it to be. Still, it had me laughing my butt off!

5 out of 5 stars Dynamic Dirty Girls   September 21, 2008

I anxiously waited for this novel to be released. It exceeded my expectations. I love Alisa's detailed descriptions, from the resort in New Mexico, to the tapas in Harvard square, the book kept me salivating. Don't read on an empty stomach. Alisa's characters have 6 distinct voices and personalities.

4 out of 5 stars Great sequel   September 15, 2008

It was great to read about the "exciting" lives of the sucias. There were ups and downs, and for me, just overall excitement throughout the book. It was interesting to see how the author put in a section about Roberto. The sex scenes were great. LOL! Very thrilling! Overall I feel the book was great and I can't wait for the next one. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we will see it on the big screen soon.

5 out of 5 stars Couldn't wait to read this book   September 12, 2008

I couldn't wait to start the book and wasn't disappointed. One thing I love about Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez is the way she describes a character's thoughts. She can capture ordinary, typical thoughts similar to my own and get them down on paper so accurately and so eloquently. She did this throughout the book and that made it easy to identify with the characters. What goes through your head when you see someone, hear conversations, feel insecure, etc. is captured so realistically. The 6 women had changed some since the first book but not so much that you didn't recognize them and not so little that you didn't have to learn some new things about them. Other reviewers questioned how they were still friends, but it was understandable to me because I have friends that I have grown away from but we get back together because the strength of the original bond draws us back together and makes us want to renew our friendship and find out what's happened since the last time we saw each other. I really enjoyed the descriptions of New Mexico and have been to that same resort and could picture everything exactly! I loved each character and really enjoyed this fun read.

3 out of 5 stars Dirty Girls...   August 9, 2008

This one was an easy read but it was predictable and almost a little obscene. If you're into telenovelas and that type of stuff you'll enjoy it. And even though I think she tried to tackle some important topics that relate to women, especially Latinas, it really just fell short for me.

Her first book is by far her best!
