| Customer Reviews:
Great unit, causes our pipes to hammer June 14, 2008 I am sad to hear others had bad luck with this device. I paid about 50 bucks for it in the very begining of spring 08. We had our grass reseeded and there was no way i would remember to turn off the hose. I really liked it because of the intermittent feature.
Others said it would not turn off, mine in fact turns off so well and so fast, that it causes our pipes to hammer. Granted the hammering pipes is a problem of the house and not the unit itself. At first i was thinking perhaps they should make the unit close the water off at a slower speed to stop the hammer, however now i realize that if it closed slower it may not close at all.
So in the end i really like this product. I have been using it for about 4 months, and it probably gets used at least 2 times a week or more depending on what the grass/plants need. We leave it connected to the hose all the time, if we need to use the hose to fill a baby pool (for the dog) we just turn the timer to the ON position. It will act a little strange if you want to go from timmer function to ON position, but i was thinking that was because it did not want to mess up the internal gearing that operates the timer. Others say it is because of water pressure. i dont know, but i do know that if you go from timer to OFF to ON it works ok. However in the process of figuring it out, i have turned the spiggot off and back on to allow the timer to be turned to the ON position from timer.
Again my ONLY complaint is that it causes our pipes to hammer, and very violently. i was asleep and heard the hammer start up, so i ran down stairs and outside to quickly turn off the spiggot. Sort of defeats the idea of set it and forget it. Makes me not want to use it if i am not home to babysit the timer/hammering pipes as i dont want a $50 to cost me thousands in pipe repair and water damages from the hammering pipes finally giving way.
Junk and shameful: broke in 1 hour. May 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Junk, I was stunned at the fact that it broke in the first hour of using. I am good with mechanics, and was gentle with it since I have read reviews of other similiar products that also broke. i bought 2, the first broke after 1 hour, the second after a few weeks (5 uses). I turned the dial as gentle as possible. I suspect it can't handle high water pressure. Both units seemed to choke at the turn-off time and pop. I live in NE New Jersey and have what i think is normal pressure. Either the entire lot of these are bad or the thing is junk or it can't handle higher pressure. if there is a pressure limit it should be clearly stated and warned to not use in my setting with quality municipal water supply. I think there are no quality water timers to choose from. Best to do it yourself and save your money! (i bought Gilmour at Lowes and they broke also)
Broke in three weeks May 21, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I used this for three weeks and it broke. Now it won't shut off. Avoid.
