5 out of 5 stars ultimate funkadelic live   February 13, 2008
I love this performance all funkadelic heads should cop this eddie hazel goes to orbity on here he creeped me out on maggotr brain clearly hazel deserved more credit than what he was given plus you get bernie worrell on here who gives eddie a run for his money also, billy bass on bass his riffs are wicked tyrone lampkin is on here despite that he makes a few mistaKES he still kept it together and harol beane was chicken scratching all night long good lp. tawl ross went baserk doing acid and tiki fulwood was on a drug binge or he quit the original funkadelics left george I don't know many times before alice in my fantasies is the first jam boy funkadelic shows you they was'nt nothing to play with, you get 2 versions of I call my baby pussycat the parliaments come out fuzzy starts preaching while george does his weird raps admitting later on he's high but yeah we all know p funk is about drugs. then you have a slow version of I call my baby pussycat but hey it's still chaotic witrh george screaming and eddie channeling hendrix boy. this whole cd isd good tyrone lampkin got his funk togther though he kicked azz on future albums like cosmic slop, america eats its young, and electric spanking of war babies a shame he's not here anymore rip to ty, eddie haZEL, tiki fulwood, and ray davis you can hear his bass vocals singing alongside george, fuzzy, calvin, and grady.

5 out of 5 stars Funkin' The Joint Up   November 16, 2007
Do not be alarmed by the sonic boom heard in the opening notes on the CD, Funkadelic - Meadowbrook, Rochester, MI - 12th September 1971 (WBCD-1117); this is an electrifying show of guitar-drenched rock and funk.

Guitarists Eddie Hazel and Harold Beane tear down the house on Alice In My Fantasies and Maggot Brain. The latter cut demonstrates yet again why Hazel's legacy of stretching the limits of the electric guitar is right behind Jimi Hendrix. Drummer Tyrone Lampkin - in his first show with the group - sizzles on the opening number, while adding a tasty jazz-infused flavor to the rhythm throughout the gig.

The band funks the joint up on the two versions of I Call My Baby Pussycat and gets their collective groove on during Good Old Music. The next nearly 24 minutes of music - I Got A Thing, You Got A Thing, Everybody Got A Thing and All Your Goodies Are Gone (The Loser's Seat) - is very intense, with George Clinton's Beat Generation-styled free form poetry/spoken word knifing through the mix.

I'll Bet You sets the stage for one blasting jam - You & Your Folks, Me & My Folks - with chaos ensuing as Bernie Worrell attempts to give a signal through his RMI keyboard for the vocalists to leave the stage, leading to a frantic instrumental, Free Your Mind & Your Ass Will Follow, with Clinton abruptly ending the gig with a message to the audience.

With extensive liner notes on the group and concert by Rob Bowman, this is one satisfying package for Funkadelic fans or those who want to hear a hot set by a legendary band.

5 out of 5 stars Raw Uncut Funk   September 21, 2006

I have this on tape. I like the fact that it was live and uncut. Tiki Fulwood was playing with Tyrone Davis around this time. They got Tyrone Lampkin from a band named Gut bucket. Tyrone was more of a jazz drummer so this was a new twist to him, however he did tear up Alice In My fantasies. I love "Pussycat", with Fuzzy shrieking and jeez, that music was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo loud. It's funny because one part of the show Mr. Clinton confessed. "I'm highed that mutha F*c*e*" ...which was obvious. Anway i give it 5 stars because of the time it was recorded and the personell. Now on some of the studio cuts, Tyrone kicks some butt on those drumms...especially the song "Whole Lot Of BS"....
Thank U Westbound...
RIP Tyrone Lampkin.....I Miss U....

4 out of 5 stars Growing Pains of Funk   September 6, 2006

I really enjoyed this CD as it took me to place where the funk is. I listened to The Parliaments and Funkadelic and it shows me how they have grown up musically! The perk to having this CD is having the liner notes as spoken by the Great Billy "Bass" Nelson. He really does not hold anything back and it is like your right at the concert. Funkadelic is shown in thid CD as great even despite the fact that Tiki is not on the drums. if he were, I believe that this CD would cost alot more...

4 out of 5 stars early sounds of funkadelic   August 11, 2006

In 1971 Funkadelic was more a funky rock band. As time went on and they switched from Westbound records over to Warner they became more a funk band. Both inclinations had some great moments. This concert, which has been traded in bootleg cicles for some time now, shows Funkadelic as a very raw group, breaking in a few new members. George Clintons even somewhat 'apoligizes' for thier new drummer. Despite the problems this is a great early peek at what was to evolve as one of the most innovative groups of the 70s. While this show may not be technically perfect, any fan of the group will like it. I, myself love to hear as many different versions of 'Maggot Brain' as I can
