How the Leopard Got His Spots is Rudyard Kipling's explanation of the big cat's most distinctive feature. The story traces the migration of the leopard's food source, primarily giraffes and zebras, from the yellow, grayish, brownish high plains to the striped, speckled, blotchy shadows of the forest. As the leopard follows his prey into this strangely colored habitat, his coat must change to camouflage him in his new surroundings.

One installment of the award-winning Rabbit Ears series, this 25-minute video features a riveting reading by the deep-voiced Danny Glover complete with East African accent. He is accompanied by Ladysmith Black Mamabazo's South African a cappella harmonies and Lori Lohstoeter's paintings. The distinctly South African harmonies are rich and captivating, and the bright hues of Lohstoeter's paintings make the African land spring to life. Children 5 and older will be entranced by this wonderful story, and even the youngest child will enjoy the music and artwork. --Tami Horiuchi
