Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Techni Ice reusable ice packs.Techni Ice HDR consists of a 4 layer construction. Techni Ice has two outer layers are of heavy duty plastic while the two inner plies are made to resist puncture and holds the main ingredient to Techni Ice, a refrigerant polymer. Techni Ice is made of a puncture resistant material is actually a cross-linked polyacrylate polyalcohol co-polymer refrigerant that's combined with a proprietary secret formula. Even if the plastic rips, the inside layer will hold the Ice in. Hydrating: When new, the Techni Ice comes in extremely thin sheets that require hydrating before freezing or heating. To activate the cells, simply fill a bucket or sink with warm water; cold water will work as well, but warm works best from what we've experienced. Immerse the sheet in the warm water for about 90 seconds while scrunching the Techni Ice. You will know when they are done and the Techni Ice recommends that you leave a thumb indentation in each cell during the swelling to allow room for expansion during freezing. When we hydrated 10 sheets, we found that having all cells submerged during the procedure is important, and even so, when crunching the cells, not all of them will expand at the same rate which required more work to get them to the desired size.

3 out of 5 stars Dry Ice? Not exactly.   September 30, 2008
This is no substitute for dry ice. I was told that it would keep ice cream frozen in a cooler, but alas, it melted. I must say that the "ice" pack stayed frozen for a long time, so I imagine it would keep food cold longer than ice would. Just not frozen. Also, as it defrosted, the plastic sheet got slimy (yuck!)

5 out of 5 stars These are amazing   September 15, 2008
I've had a few of these sitting around for about 10 years and never used them. I finally used them this year for camping and I immediately got back online and ordered 10 more. I'm ordering another 30 soon for the larger cooler and gifts.

1 out of 5 stars Techni Ice packs   June 29, 2008

I bought several of these packs, based on the recommendation of a user at a trade show. However, they do not seem to stay cold any longer than an ice block, for example, and take up at least as much volume as ice. Also, the packs leak some slimy stuff that quickly covers everything in the cooer, so I had to place each pack is in its own plastic bag to contain the slime. What a nuisance. I have reverted to using ice.

4 out of 5 stars These are nice   December 28, 2007
We use these for my son's lunch bag at school. To keep his milk cold all day, using the big block frozen packs was very heavy and took up a lot of room. I like that you can cut these to the perfect size. I don't find that they really freeze harder than other packs, but they are more convenient to use due to being able to modify them to suit particular needs.

I am disappointed in Techni Ice. All of the pods do not contain the freezing product and will not swell up with water to freeze. I have given them a week to fill up and they haven't. You can feel with your fingers that some of the pods are empty. I don't know how this will affect the useage.
I have had these sheets before and they were wonderful. But they do wear out and I needed new ones. All of the pods in the older sheets I had were filled up and froze well. They were the 2-ply.Techni Ice HDR 4 Ply Reusable Ice Packs / Hot Packs (2 Sheets)
