Product Description Yosegi, or yosegi-zaiku, is a type of traditional Japanese mosaic woodwork which originated in Japans culturally rich Edo Period. Yosegi veneers are commonly found on the outside of Japanese secret boxes (Himitsu-Bako) or puzzle boxes, but may also be used to decorate many other items such as trays, chests, kendama, coasters, photo frames and jewelry boxes. Zougan-Zaiku Marquetry Wooden Mosaic is made by setting patterns of landscapes and characters created by natural wood colors, which are cut out from wood materials, in a main board. This process is very intricate and timely. Yosegi and Zougan Japanese puzzle box is high class puzzle box and limited.

Very satisfied March 10, 2008 The box is great. I've never seen anything like this before. I like opening and closing it. I keep it on the shelf in the living room and my friends who saw it could not let it go until they could open it.
Big Thank you to BeneGifts for the great presentation and the free gift - you really made me feel special!
Amazing Box. Great Gift! March 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This box is really amazing! It looks just like a piece of wood and there is not way to open it (there is no key hole or any obvious locks). But as you examin it you see that some of the parts of the box can be moved and that is the secret of the box. Moving one part at a time you can open it. Very clever mechanism! I got my first box long time ago and am a big fan of them (I have the whole collection at home). These boxes are truely unique and even nowadays they are handmade in Japan's Hakone region (this seller, BeneGifts, has a great article about Yosegi making and history of puzzle boxes on their web-site). It is a great gift also (I gave these boxes to some of my friends - they loved it).
