About Sevylor In 1948 in Vitry, a small suburb of Paris, France, Berco Grimbert created an electronics company called Societe Electronique de Vitry, or SEVY for short. Soon, a friend of Grimbert's from New York commissioned SEVY to produce high frequency welding machines capable of fusing a new material called PVC (poly vinyl chloride). SEVY's machines worked very well and the American friend developed a very successful business manufacturing swimming pool related products. He then taught SEVY how to work with PVC. One of the first PVC products SEVY produced was inflatable bathtub called Dou Dou. It was an instant hit in postwar France--mothers could bathe their children even where no facilities were available. The media hailed Dou Dou as a significant invention. Soon, SEVY added small pools and flotation devices such as rings, beach balls, and inflatable swim jackets to its product line. Safe, hygienic products, made of PVC and designed for portability, durability and convenience, became the SEVY trademark. The company quickly outgrew its small facilities in Vitry. Mr. Grimbert accepted an attractive offer from the French government to take over a defunct textile factor in the tiny Alsatian village of Buhl. After establishing its new headquarters, the company added the letters "lor" to its name, and became Sevylor. In French, l'or means gold. By coincidence, or possibly fate, Sevylor has proven to be "as good as gold" to its owners, retailers, consumers, and employees.
Product Description Sevylor's Tahiti is the Kayak against which all others are measured. Made of rugged PVC fabric, it has a rigid I-beam floor and has two inflatable seats.

Convenient for apartment storage August 9, 2008 No space for storing a rigid kayak in oceanfront apartment complex in San Juan, PR. Inflatable option does the trick. Good for ocean use although a little tight for two adults. Maybe a sit-on-top would be better. Rolls up nicely and not that heavy.
This is fun August 6, 2008 This is a fun boat to go out on the lake with. I do recommend the STEARNS - SEVYLOR SKEG FOR TAHITIS, FIJI AND BALI MODELS. Its a rooter that you must have or you will not be able to go straight. Its good for two people. Its big for one person.
Great Value July 26, 2008 I have taken the two that I own out half a dozen times now, and the inflation is easy, boat handles as well as expected, and it is pretty durable. It does not come with paddles, but these, X-Treme Deluxe 84in Kayak Paddle, are great paddles to use with it.
Great ride! Great deal! Get the skeg!!! June 2, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
My fiance and I purchased this boat last summer. We live very close to a river, so we just dropped in by our house. We paddled all we wanted and pulled out about 10 miles down in a riverside park, deflated the boat, then called a cab and threw it in the trunk to go home. Perfect! When deflated, if you get a couple of nylon straps, it can roll up to about the size of a medium duffle bag for transport.
I did one run without the skeg (not included) and one with. Don't skip the skeg. It made a HUGE difference in the handling.
I've had several canoes over the years. The pain was trying to transport, portage, and get home on my own. This is a perfect solution.
I'm 5'8" and my fiance is 6'5". We were a bit cramped when sitting in the boat, so I'd recommend that you get 2 boats for 2 adults.
good for me May 10, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I recently purchased one of these from another vender. I have no prior experience with kayaks and limited experience with boats of any kind. I needed a small inexpensive boat to rescue stranded R/C boats (see my other reviews) that was capable of handing my 220+ lbs with some margin to go two up if desired. I also purchased a Sevylor paddle, skeg, and large foot pump at the same time. I inflated the kayak with the foot pump in about 20 minutes including installing the skeg. I am pleased with the initial quality and price of this kayak. The vender I got mine from sold the drab green one for the same price as the banana yellow one so I opted for the drab green. I had planned a controlled, methodical initial sea trial with the kayak due to my lack of experience, but stuff happens. One of my RC boats got stuck in a morass of weeds at a local lake and I had to rush back home and get the kayak. I loaded the inflated kayak in the back of my Ranger and off I went. The kayak was easy to load and unload and once in the water (with PFD on) I quickly figured out how to propel and maneuver the kayak well enough to rescue my R/C boat. The seats are surprisingly comfortable (at least for the short time I was in the water). The low profile of the sides makes this craft ideal for what I needed it for (fetching things out of the water). The kayak was easily removed from the water and loaded back in the Ranger.
