Product Description 5 QT, Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Dutch Oven With Eared Loop Side Handles.
Amazon.com Review The American-based company Lodge has been fine-tuning its construction of rugged, cast-iron cookware for more than a century. No other metal is as long-lasting and works as well for spreading and retaining heat evenly during cooking. Lodge's Logic line of cookware comes factory pre-seasoned with the company's vegetable oil formula, and is ready to use right out of the box. At 10-1/4 inches in diameter and 4 inches deep, this 5-quart Dutch oven holds a heap of chili, chicken and rice, or fruit cobbler. This model is not the campfire style, with legs, wire handle, and a lid for coals. This one is flat-bottomed to sit on a stovetop burner or in the oven, with a domed lid that sends moisture back into the pot. Loop handles aid in carrying with oven mitts. While the Dutch oven comes pre-seasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. After the meal is done, simply scrub the cast iron with a stiff brush and hot water, no soap, and dry immediately. Lodge covers the sturdy oven with a lifetime limited warranty against defects, and when cared for properly, this virtually indestructible pan should last for generations. --Ann Bieri

I threw it in the garbage!!! June 30, 2008 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
I read the reviews and thought that this was "just what I needed". The shipping was fine, the product WAS horrible. I tried the pre-fixing before I made my soup in it. The soup was okay (Lentil) but then it never got clean again. I tried re-oiling the cast iron and that made it worse. It was rusted and never got any better. Besides this, it was as heavy as lead. I could barely lift it to take it off the stove. I asked a couple of friends what to do and/or if they wanted it. No way! So, I threw it out!! Good riddens!!!
Best for Kitchen or Camp Stove June 26, 2008 I own a slightly older version of this model. I've owned it for about 8 years now and it has never let me down. This particular design isn't really intended for outdoor/camping but would work very well for that purpose if you set it on the cooking grates of your charcoal grill or on your camp stove. I will only purchase Lodge cast iron Dutch ovens and fry pans. Others just don't have the density and weight. The only problem I have with this design is the lid, which has small spikes that are supposed to allow "self basting." Do these spikes do what they are intended to do? I don't really know. But, one thing the spikes do is make it hard to clean and evenly oil the lid. This is only a slight inconvenience and really would only cause me to mark this down a half star but that isn't an option so I will give it 4 stars. One other thing I need to mention concerns purchasing Lodge products that are pre-seasoned. The pre-seasoned products are more expensive and I don't really think they are seasoned very well. I recommend you still season the cast iron as you would an unseasoned item. Better yet, purchase an unseasoned item if available. The only thing the pre-seasoned items save you from doing is scrubbing and washing the wax coating off of the product.
excellent product! June 22, 2008 Lodge Logic 5-Quart Pre-Seasoned Dutch OvenThe Lodge 5 qt dutch oven is perfect! not too big, not too small - just right for cooking dried beans and stews - and at a good price, especially with the free shipping - takes longer to get here, but that is OK considering the savings.
Great size and handy for no-knead bread baking June 9, 2008 Fantastic cast iron, already seasoned. Heavy and practical - retains heat and easy to imagine lasting a lifetime. Great product
The one to use for just about EVERYTHING May 30, 2008 It cleans up easily, too!
This Dutch over is such a nice size. Since becoming the proud owner of this Lodge item, I find I turn to it for things I used to use our 3QT pot for more and more often. It has a wider bottom than a typical pot, and more surface area translates directly into more even and perhaps faster cooking. And because it's iron, you know it'll last for just about ever while adding a bit of iron to your diet as well! We even use it to boil water for pasta in and it has never let us down.
