Inspiring July 14, 2008 A New Earth is amazing It has changed my life so much that I have sent copies to five family members. I recommend it to anyone looking for a more centered life.
The title is not misleading at all. July 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Your life's purpose...what could be more important. This book can help you realize the purpose of your life...which is not buying a sports car, becoming an "educated" person, finding the perfect person/job/house or even religion. Or you could go about your present life and spend the majority of your time waiting for lunch time...then waiting for work to get out...then dreading going back to work....over and over and over. Please do yourself a favor and read this book with an open mind. Notice your reactions to what is written...look inside yourself to see if there is anything substantial to this book...look past the book and author and look into yourself....you can find out what it means to be alive...most people are dead...and you'll see that if you can find truth in this book (...it's by no means limited to this book or any book...but this can help). I hope you find out...and if you do, please help others....there is nothing you can do that is more important than helping another awaken.
wonderful service July 13, 2008 Fast and excellent product. In great condition and would buy from this vendor again.
A disappointing purchase July 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The promotional information caught my attention; 'Awakening to your life's purpose' which made me quite excited to receive this book. I did not know it was on Oprah's book list so this came as a surprise. I must admit I am quite disappointed. Maybe it is useful to put an age old spiritual concept into contemporary terms, 'the ego', but spirtuality is far more than just this. For those putting a first foot on a spirtual path, yes it has merit but if you are widely read and are looking for something mind expanding, well, make your own mind up but don't hold your breath. It is more pop psychology and self help than spiritual and there are far better books to guide you to your life's purpose.
Awesome book, if you can "get" the simplicity of it. July 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Widowed, depressed, jobless and didn't know what to do with myself; I stumbled across Oprah's website and found out about this book. What drew me in was the subtitle "Awakening to Your Life's Purpose". Every job I've ever had I've hated. I need a job, but I don't want one! I have very few reliable friends, and too many unreliable one's. Even my immediate family seems like a huge disappointment. What was I to do?
I literally felt as if I was going mad, and my life was over at age 42.
The simplicity of thought in this book seems widely criticized. However, I will tell you it is this simple mindset that saved my life, snapped me out of my depression, and got me interested in exploring the world again.
I can't say that I have "found my life's purpose", as I'm now convinced it's undefinable. But, I am no longer "as" concerned about what ifs and what could have been. The simple presence of "Now", answers each and every moment when I dare to question my life's purpose. I'm not saying I've got it, and it never slips away. I'm saying, that when I remember to notice "Now", I remember that I don't need to foretell the future. And I don't need to worry about the past. I try to remember "Now" as often as possible.
The only trouble with the thoughts and methods outlined in the text is that it is apparently too simple to grasp affectively. I've heard and read so many comments trying to complicate it's message. Trying to turn the book into a study group, or a philosophy in and of itself. Even what Oprah is doing is a bit out of context with what the book is about. This is a book review, not an Oprah review, but I have to say that Oprah's ego was awakening to my ego on more than one occasion. I really don't care if Oprah "gets it" or not. Please, can we just let Eckhart talk about the book!
Anyway, I'm not going to pretend that I have any more insight than anyone else. But, this book is well worth a read to find out if it rings true for you. It may end up that you don't like it, and you wasted your money; as it has for so many others. But if resonates for you, it has the potential to change your entire outlook on life. For the better I'd say.
