One of my top 10 books of all time! August 10, 2008 I LOVE THIS BOOK! I read this book based on a recommendation and I am glad I listened. I was hesitant at first, but the author [...] me in QUICK. I saw and heard all the hype about The Kite Runner, but A Thousand Splendid Suns? YES! When I read the book, I started routing for the heroines. I was able to imagine everything the author was describing, down to what the characters should look like. I even started thinking, "They should make a movie out of this so I could go watch it!"
This book is so good, that I decided to start reading The Kite Runner. Afterwards, I also plan to watch the actual movie for this. I know there is already one out for The Kite Runner.
Astonishing Book! August 8, 2008 By far, this has been one of the best books I have ever read! It is so well written that I was able to picture every single scene. It was really hard for me to put the book down because every chapter ended in suspense. I just wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. This book was definately an eye-opener and it reminded me of the sad truth about Afghanistan's reality. Even though this story is fiction it reflects reality.
I must admit that there were times that I had nightmares because of the book but I still highly recommend it!
Khaled Hosseni is great writer!! I can't wait to read the Kite Runner.
Overwhelmingly gripping and realistic read August 8, 2008 A Thousand Splendid Suns tells a vivid story from two different points of view that eventually come together as the female main characters. These women come from two very different backgrounds, and the contrast helps shed light on how they react to their environment. I thought The Kite Runner was well written, but this book speaks to the human condition of injustice that we all feel at some point in our lives. Although some may find this book depressing, I felt it was a realistic portrayal of how life is in this world. Not a fairy tale ending, but completely appropriate. The text carries over from page to page seamlessly, and any interruption to the read is an annoyance, be it a trip to the refridgerator or the more urgent call to employement. Perfect read for the last lazy days of August, excellent for discussion, heartwrenching and thought provoking, A Thousand Splendid Suns provides a look into a world far from what most Americans are concerned with in their daily lives.
Eye Opener August 7, 2008 This book is by far the best book I have read to date. This book will open your eyes and heart to those who suffer so greatly over in Iraq, not only that but it is a tremendous story of love and courage that a mother has for children. A must read!
A new outlook August 6, 2008 I have never read another book that has touched me the way this book did. It sure made me think about women in other countries in a different light. I can't wait for another taste of these books by Hosseini.
