5 out of 5 stars Very engrossing in the land of gross and decadence   December 28, 2003

The stories read like fiction, life imitating art. Gina Gallo captures fact and spins a very visual account of the trials and experiences of being a cop, a woman cop. It seemed that as I was reading her memoirs, every question I had of what a woman would think in this situation and that, she answered without making this book overly drawn from the struggles of being female. She was a cop who offers up an intelligent and articulate story that demystifies cop land but leaves me thinking that most jobs good or bad feel disconnected to life and one's community. I have a greater appreciation for the scope of human behavior, both inside and out of the PD.

5 out of 5 stars I would have never imagined!   June 24, 2003
Gina takes you into a world that most will never see or experience. Thank goodness. How can people commit such evil crimes? How can some cops be so corrupt?

I had to post one of her stories on my website. Gina by far is one of the most interesting people I have had the pleasure of speaking to.

An adrenaline-pumping, speeding squad car of a book. Brutally honest and thoroughly engrossing. More please!

5 out of 5 stars An incredibly well-written book   October 28, 2002

I was very impressed with this book. It was refreshing to read a book by this hard-working female cop who got out there in the trenches alongside the men, got her bumps and bruises, and felt pride in what she did. It's a really great book for people who have no idea what cops have to deal with on a daily basis--being sworn to serve and protect people who have no respect for what you do, and dealing with headaches within the Department. The anecdotes she used were incredible, ranging from inspirational, comical, and downright heartwrenching. It truly takes a special kind of person to deal with the types of situations she described. Truly a great book, you'll never want to put it down!

5 out of 5 stars Exceptionally powerful, thought provoking and honest   July 31, 2002
"Armed and Dangerous: Memoirs of a Chicago Policewoman" is an exceptional book by Gina Gallo, a woman who has been there, done that with uncommon courage. Now she writes with honesty, sensitivity and skill about her observations and experiences -- some funny, some tragic and many worthy of discussion on institutional bureaucracy, crime and domestic violence and so much more.

Her world is multi-dimensional as she is: a former artist and counselor who found herself in the uniform of a cop. Thankfully, she has lived to tell her story.
