For a 1st time Dad, this book helped out a lot.
Most every scenario we came across was in the book in simple plain English to keep us from panicking.
Highly recommended for any pregnant couples... both the mom and dad will find content usefull
Great book for parents of Toddlers (or soon to be)! January 12, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
My mother is a daycare administrator and is often faced with parents who have little or no experience in child development. When no amount of explaining a situation (like when children potty train or separation anxiety) works, we break out the book. Every parent who we've talked to immediate ran out and bought the book.
So far, it's been the best reference after the American Academy of Pediatrics Guide. If you're looking for a guide for alternative theories or homeopathy, look elsewhere. This book is in sync with the current medical establishment: why we give vaccines, teaching children to comfort themselves by sleeping in their cribs, etc.
This book should be on the shelf of every parent of a child ages 9 months (to read before they get there) through the toddler years!
The one thing that many are complaining about in other reviews -- breastfeeding being stopped at one year -- is also in sync with the medical establishment. While it might not be the "popular" thing with parents who plan to breastfeed long into toddler years or are rabid members of the La Leche League, it is EXACTLY what the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests, that whole milk is best for babies and toddlers after 12 months. It's also more in tune with how our society views breastfeeding. There isn't a lot of support for parents breastfeeding older children for that reason.
