I was disappointed with this novel. I don't feel it is up to par with her other novels. It started well but the end was really rushed and there was little to no romance. The main character promised romance but then proposed in the next breath; not what she deserved. I hope "Return to Summerhouse" is more enjoyable.
Never Disappointed June 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have read every one of Jude Deveraux books some more that three or four times. This was first book that I could okay for a young adult which could lead to the next generation of Deveraux readers. This books subject was unique and open the door for other characters and plots to derive from this storyline. It what I expect for Deveraux she hasn't let me down yet in the almost thirty years of reading her. If you are looking for something simple and light to read then this is the book for you. Totally acceptable for young adult with advance reading.
Suprisingly Awesome June 1, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've read every book Jude's ever written and even though this is not one of her usual romance stories, I love it! If you're expecting the usual romance with a twist, you'll probably disapointed, but I have to give her credit for trying something completely different and succeeding! It's completely different from her usual writing style and yet she managed to create a story with so many twists that you really have to pay attention in order to keep up with it. 'Carolina' Isle might have been the only book where she didn't do her greatest, but she made up for it with 'Secrets'. Wonderful job.
Wait for it on the dollar table May 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I usually enjoy Ms Deveraux's works for pleasant and amusing light reading. This one didn't catch steam until well into it. It read contrived in an effort to make it more thrilling but, for me, it flopped. I wouldn't waste the space on my mem card for it and left Amazon to keep custody of it on my bookshelf.
Should be kept a secret May 21, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am a huge fan of Ms. Deveraux's books. I have collect and/or read, if not all, of her books. I even re-read several of her books. But this was a major disappointment. It started with a promising storyline then it just deteriorated. First time, I had to "force" myself to finish any of her story. By the time, I got to the end ... I was lost and the twist and turn of the story got so wacky that I didn't take the time to try to figure out the twist. I was just glad I was able to finish the book. And THAT was THAT -- an end of this sad story. I won't be picking up this one to re-read that for sure. Don't waste your money on this uninspiring, disappointing story.
