Try Prayer Power July 3, 2007 This book is very helpful and the way I think and believe. The book is short and to the point. Excellent
Advice that remains timeless! June 19, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING by Norman Vincent Peale is one of my favorite books . . . so imagine my delight when I had the opportunity to revisit it recently as a result of listening to the taped version.
Best of all: Peale did most of the narration . . . while some could argue that his speaking voice wasn't the greatest (or at least at the age when he read this particular version), I enjoyed it even more so because he was the one doing the reading.
His advice from the book remains timeless; i.e., provided you can get through some of the parts that might be a little too religious-based for your particular taste . . . I was able to do so and so was thus able to enjoy such insights as the following:
* As you think, so shall you be.
* I don't believe people are born negative thinkers. All babies, unless they're ill, are positive. Positive thinking is extremely natural. Unfortunately, some babies are born into negative households. Since they're very susceptible to their environment, they absorb the negative impulses and attitudes around them.
* Create a mental picture of yourself as a success. Hold on to this picture tenaciously. Since your mind tries to complete what it pictures, always picture SUCCESS no matter how badly things seem to be going at the moment. Whenever a negative thought about your personal power comes to mind, deliberately voice a positive thought to cancel it out.
* Anger, fear and worry are among the most subtle and destructive of all emotions. To counteract their power, fill your mind with good will, forgiveness, faith, and love.
* Each time you feel a surge of anger, ask yourself, "Is this really worth what it is doing to me emotionally? Do I really want to make a fool of myself in front of friends or family?
* Practice happy thinking. Make a mental list of pleasant thoughts and pass them through your mind several times each day. If an unpleasant thought should enter your mind, immediately stop, reject it and substitute a pleasant thought.
And, lastly, there was this idea that I do try to practice every day: * Every morning before rising, lie relaxed in bed for a few minutes. Let pictures of each happy experience you expect to have that say, pass across your mind. Savor their joy. such thoughts will cause events to turn out that way.
There's an excellent Listener's Guide that accompanies THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING.
Don't let this one out of your sight! June 13, 2007 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
This book is an absolute must-have! Coming across the title of this book is like you having found a source of hidden treasure for you to behold and begin a newfound journey in your life. I'm glad you are here reading this today. This compelling book examines faith-based principles that contain the potential to revolutionize anybody's life should they follow through. "How are you so sure?" you may ask, well, this book has been in my family for some time now. My grandmother (an ardent fan of Norman Vincent Peale books) had given a copy to my father, and I in turn, well... was introduced to The Power of Positive Thinking by accident (and what a wonderful accident it has come to be!) as the book was just laying on my father's desktop several years ago and I happen to stumble upon it. I recall having been positively charged up at that moment as Norman Vincent Peale shows you how you can achieve your goals, how to never believe in defeat (as victory is yours to start with), how to stay calm amidst the rush of everyday life, and most importantly how faith in yourself and in God regardless of your religious beliefs, can create the ultimate partnership for successful living today.
I am very grateful for writers like Norman Vincent Peale. I have accomplished more than what I had asked for. I was shown how to realize my goals through a good dose of faith and prayer. Dr. Peale draws from real life examples and inspiration from the Bible and shows you how your life coupled with the right attitude, can unlock your full potential for a meaningful lifestyle. His main source of reference is typically from Christian texts, but I find his message to be truly applicable to any religious community. I am compelled to write this review because of how this book had changed my life. Norman Vincent Peale is like a coach in a book, and not to mention, like a good family friend.
Read this book, but be careful for what you ask for or dare dream to accomplish in this life, it may just come true.

Personally, I got turned off by the introduction & the 1st page I opened this book to: Introduction - The trick of positive thinking is to be a good christian? => What about non-religious people? Are we cursed?
1st page - You live in the best country in the world (referring to US) => Wouldn't it be an unfair judgement to call US "THE BEST" country?
Good book, bad package May 22, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Maybe I should have read the details more carefully or something, but let's just say that when I opened my package and saw a miniature little book about the size of a stickey-note pad, I was deflated. Even though I tried not to let that deter me from reading the goodies inside, I'd be lying to say it didn't. My advice: make sure you're ordering a "real" book, one you don't have to squint to read. Don't trust Amazon to do it for you. The first one they show available is the small one. Shame on them. I digress...
On Peale's words, they are not new, but they are profound. The book gets kind-of repetitive early on, but maybe that's the author's point. Bottom line, books don't become "classic" for nothig. Check it out if you feel you need real change in your thought life.
