Highly Reccommended. October 7, 2008 I first read this book to see what all of the hype was about. I wanted to read it before the movie came out, but I wasn't sure if I'd finish it in time because the book is quite long. Actually, I ended up finishing it within a week because I couldn't put the book down. It was easy to get involved with the characters and the plot kept my attention. I'm the type of reader that gets bored with books easily, but this one was great.
The book is supposed to be for young adults (teenagers), but I'm 25 and loved it. Some of the plot points and dialogue were very reminiscent of my own highschool days, but that didn't bother me because the characters were pretty mature. If the characters acted just like typical teenagers in the story, it may have been too immature of a book to keep me reading. However, I could see pieces of myself in each character.
I'd highly reccommend this book to anyone to read, especially to teenage girls and younger women.
Definitely a youth book...but decent enough. October 7, 2008 I decided to pick up this series because a few of my friends would not stop ranting and raving about it, and I'm always looking for a good read. While I was not thoroughly disappointed, I certainly can't understand the immense draw that this novel seems to have. The characters seem a bit shallow/vapid. I agree with other reviewers in that both Bella and Edward act way too much like adults--they seem to have few of the teenage flaws that would have made their characters a bit more "human", if you will. Also, this book was VERY slow at the beginning, to the point where I almost began to regret that I bought the whole series at once. Thankfully it picked up a bit when the "bad guys" were introduced, and from then on I couldn't put it down.
All in all, if you're looking for a quick, easy read, especially if you're into the whole vampire thing, Twilight is worth a try...but I wouldn't expect TOO much.
Don't understand why so many people love this book October 7, 2008 I read Twilight after being told that it was "as addictive and creative as Harry Potter"
Um...no. Twilight is a young adult novel that focuses on the life of a high school girl named Bella Swan. Bella is forced to move to live with her father in a rainy Seattle town called Forks. She has to deal with issues like being the new girl in school and being rather shy. She also must deal with the fact that she falls in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen. I'll admit, the premise of this book could allow for a very interesting story, but the story is just BLAND. 90% of the book is dialogue between Edward and Bella, and most of it consists of lines such as "You are perfect and everything and I am so in love with you!" With responses like "I will love you for all eternity forever!" Both Bella and Edward are one-dimensional and boring. All they care about is each other and the book also presents a questionable message to the teenage girls who I would assume are its target audience. Bella risks everything to be with Edward, to the detriment of herself and her family. The book tells young women that without your man, life is not worth living. I really disliked this book and it was a huge effort for me to even finish it. If you want to read a good book about vampires, read the Trueblood series instead.
Twilight by Stephanie Meyer October 7, 2008 I actually purchased this book for my daughter, her friends were reading it so I thought I would check it out especially since I knew she would also want to see the movie. I went to Border's first to ask them about it and they told me that they thought that the first 3 would be okay for an 11 year old. I then bought it on Amazon because the prices were better. I thought that the writing was rather simple but the story was okay for her age. There really wasn't anything in it that was inappropriate although there is an attempt to make it really intense especially since they are in High School. She really liked the first one but is not as into the 2nd book (New Moon) as she thought she would be. Twilight has a lot of hype that isn't necessary. The movie tie ins and the Stephanie Meyer WEB site are more intense than this book.
Absoulutely FABULOUS!!! October 7, 2008 I read books for fun and this book became an obsession. It brought me into another world. I actually felt the feelings of each of the characters. After I was finished with Twilight it left me burning for more. I have never really been a person who was into the whole vampire type thing but the way this book is written I can say I am actually a fan now. Even if you don't think you can get into this book based on the fact you don't like supernatural things, think twice because I guarantee you will love this book and series. I definately recommend this book.
