The Grant County series- one of the best there is! February 12, 2008 The Grant Co series is one of the finest mystery series that there is. The triad of main characters, Lena, Jeffrey and Sarah, are a fascinating mix of vulnerability, strength, good and bad. What I love about this series is that not a single one of the main characters is totally good or bad. Like real people, they screw up, and sometimes never make it right. I can not wait to get to the next book!
Love the Grant Co Series February 8, 2008 This is yet another great read from Karin Slaughter. The Grant Co series never disappoints. I do recommend reading the books that preceed this one. But, it is a good book.
Suspense and Religion... October 26, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For fans of the Grant County series, this book does not disappoint. I read the first one, Blindsighted recently and then came across this one. I usually don't read book in a series out of order, but I was curious so I did. Though I obviously missed some important trials and tribulations of the main characters (Lena especially)I did enjoy this one. The ending was good nail biting suspense. Having missed several books with Lena, I wasn't sure how she would handle the situation. I've already ordered the next book in the series that is coming out. Now I have to back track and find the installments I missed.
Slaughter does it again. September 27, 2007 This book is one of her best. Lots of plot twists and an ending that makes you anxious for her next book. I loved it!
Great characters, but the plot was done before August 6, 2007 I've loved the Grant County series since the first book and will continue to read them until Karen Slaughter moves on to other things, but this was her weakest book. I say that because the whole "girl in a box" theme has been done before in many horror stories, and unfortunately, real life.
As for the religious colony, it was a little anti-climactic. It was a little too obvious (ex cons working on the farm as part of their work release programs, hypocritical fanatics, hidden secrets, etc.). The thoughts on religion expressed here were not new things to my well worn ears on the topic, I know where I stand on religious matters and not this book nor the behavior of others will sway me either way. If anything, it makes a great point of the hypocrisy of so called "religious people" who are doing their work on behalf of Christian causes. They are self serving who are hiding behind the institution of the church and the frock of God for their own cause, not out of true altruism.
Still, I love the characters and what things they will be involved in. Because there are, after all, monsters around every corner.
