5 out of 5 stars Concise, easy to follow, great book!   June 16, 2007

This is a great book for those who need to teach a baby, an ex-racer, or any horse the essential basics. Each lesson begins with a description of that you're going to do and why. There's also a list of needed equipment (all of these lessons are to take place in a round pen or arena with the corners "rounded" off). Step-by-step, Lyons takes you through the lesson, providing a picture with each step and a description of what you are doing. I recommend this book to anyone who needs to teach any horse basic ground manners.

5 out of 5 stars John Lyon's Bringing Up Baby   May 12, 2007
Although the methods do not work 100% on all youngsters, it gives the trainer a base to work fro. From there, common sense and knowing the horse you are working with comes into play

John Lyon's Bringing Up Baby is one of the best manuals for early training. The book is well written and organized. It is easy to use when looking for solutions to training problems and the steps to good solid training for your young horse! Superior book!

5 out of 5 stars I bought this book for my 15 year old daughter & her new foal   January 4, 2007

I bought this book for my daughter. She lost her older hunter horse and decided she didnt want another made horse. She could never replace him so she wanted a foal and to raise it herself. Well Bella is only 7 months old and a handful but by using this and one other book she has already taught her to lead. Just a few minutes for a couple of days and using these techniques she has had small successes. this is one of the better books that I could find for it was easy to understand the directions and pictures. It is one of the better books to purchase if you plan on raising a baby too.

4 out of 5 stars Good Book, ends a little early.   December 4, 2006

I bought this book after I got a yearling morgan filly for my birthday. It was ok, but since my filly already knew how to lead and we didn't have round pen, I had to improvise on some of the lessons. The one main problem I had with it was the fact it just drops you right after you've taught your youngster how to be saddled, and I haven't found a bok of his that picks up right at the same place. Overall this is a very good book for training the weanling to yearling.
