More Than Best Keyboard for the buck! June 6, 2008 This keyboard is outstanding. Not only just for the price.
My first Apple keyboard lasted 5 years before the keys started to stick. So a little over a year ago I purchased a new Apple keyboard and the keys are already sticking. They don't make keyboards like they used to! So I was looking for an alternative keyboard and a friend of mine has the Kensington Slim Type for Mac. I tried it out and really liked it a lot .
The feel of the keys has just the right about of resistance with a short travel and are very quiet.
Only minor negative for some people: the keyboard does not have additional usb ports, which at first I thought was going to be an issue with my wireless mouse and trans/receiver. But as it turns out the wireless trans/receiver has a a four foot cable which easily reached the back of my Mac.
The keyboard has the latest driver - Version 1.3 - on the supplied CD, and after installing the driver it will ask you to check for the latest updates via the web... Do it! It will install an additional small file to help run the keyboard smoothly. I'm running Leopard.
Here's a link if you would rather download Version 1.3 keyboard driver...just don't forget to check for the latest updates after install: http://us.kensington.com/html/3846.html#14less
Also a major plus: Kensington Keyboard has a 5 year warranty. Mac only has one year warranty.
Something else to consider February 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you are considering this keyboard, as i was, you may want to check out, at a slightly lower price, the Matias USB 2.0 keyboard for mac. It doesn't have the low profile that the kensington has, but it has two USB ports, as well as one USB 2.0 dock on top of the keyboard. I got mine for $30, and while I still think the kensington is pretty good, the fact that the Matias has three USB ports swayed my decision.
Good but.... January 30, 2008 First off, the keyboard worked right out of the box. All keys and the volume controls worked fine (OS X Tiger). Keys have a nice feel and respond fairly well. However, be warned that the keys are a bit close together, the space bar is small and does not take nice to strokes made off center about 50% of the time. There is a silver bezel that runs around the edge that looks cheap and after a week already looks like it's 6 months old. The space needed for the bezel could have been used for the keys. There is a ridge next to the bezel that catches and collects dirt and debris like a charm. I like to keep things clean so this is a real pain. It's just a shame, because this could be a great keyboard.
great bargin January 24, 2008 I'm very pleased with this keyboard. It is much cheaper than a mac keyboard...but basically the same. My only complaint (or wish), is that it had some extra usb ports. My last keyboard did and that was helpful when using external devices. Overall, nice feel and very pretty!
No separate arrow and home/end/PgUp keys January 12, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This keyboard feels nice to type on, but lacks a separate area for arrow keys and for the home/end/PgUp/etc. directional keys. For my work, which involves a lot of typing, the non-standard layout makes this keyboard useless.
